Winnipeg Aviation’s intimate flight school has been training and educating new pilots for 35 years. Training sessions at St. Andrews Airport launch learners from one of three training runways, allowing student pilots to fly with the most favorable winds. Pilots prepare with a 15 to 20 minute pre-flight safety lesson before joining a private instructor for an hour-long flight tour. Mentor-mentee pairs strike a skyward course after bonding with a Cessna or Piper aircraft from the school’s fleet. Novice pilots dominate time in the cockpit as they handle the plane’s controls and perform take off and basic flight manoeuvers. Plane professors take the helm for landing, providing flight support and humming “The Wind Beneath My Wings” when needed.
