The musical legacy of the provinces runs deeper than the Great Bear Lake and sounds sweeter than the finest maple syrup—and Oh Canada, What a Feeling gives it all an upstanding salute. Taking cues from hit revues such as Rain and Let It Be, this sing-along story of a nation’s soundtrack takes shape thanks to a cast of young tribute singers and a full band, all backed by historical footage and nostalgia-stirring video vignettes of events from every major musical era.
In Part One of this adventure (with further chapters forthcoming), the theatrical time machine stretches all the way back to Guy Lombardo (Canada’s first big-band star), Paul Anka (Canada’s first teen idol), and Neil Young (Canada’s first singing sideburns), and continues through the ’70s radio reign of Anne Murray, The Band, and Gordon Lightfoot to the hook-filled ’80s rock of Loverboy and Bryan Adams. This slick salute, which is debuting in Toronto before a nationwide tour, features polished production from Annerin Productions (the team behind Rain and Bjorn Again), with period costumes from John Dunnett (Kinky Boots) and musical direction from JUNO award-winner Russell Broom.
