575 Berry St., Winnipeg, Manitoba

Enjoy modern mobility with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get two sprint-kart races for one person or one race each for two people at Speedworld Indoor Kart Track (a $20 value).

Inside Speedworld’s air-conditioned, 27,500-square-foot facility, sprint karts accelerate racers to speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour. Skilled speed-guides instruct drivers on proper kart operation and then outfit them with full-faced helmets and optional safety glasses. Aluminum race wheels and improperly secured top hats spin as up to 12 karts fly across nearly 0.25 kilometres of track, wrapping around nine challenging turns, including sweepers, S curves, and 90-degree bends. Four-piston caliper disk brakes help drivers navigate hairpin direction changes and avoid collisions with pylons or stacked tire barriers. After the checkered flag falls, drivers can request a printout from the ChronX system, an automatic race monitor that delivers each karter key statistics, such as average speed, lap times, and final race standing. Patrons can also attend “Black Light Glow Racing” every Monday and Tuesday to show off shining carts, clothing, and wind up teeth as they race around the track.

Friends and family spy every driver’s race-winning pass and parallel-park job from behind the viewing area’s floor-to-ceiling windows and insulated walls. Reflecting Speedworld’s commitment to safety, kart-care experts test each kart weekly and make over motors during daily general-maintenance sessions.

With today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of Icelandic fare and drinks at Amma’s Tearoom & Gift Shop in Gilmi.

A traditional Icelandic eatery, Amma’s Tearoom sates the howls of hungry stomachs with multifarious breakfast and lunch menus. Morningtime munchers spelunk through the maple-granola- and vanilla-yogurt-strata of the yogurt parfait, whom the Queen personally crowned with a Saskatoon berry topping ($5.75), and the crust-less quiche of the day ($8.99) delights noontime noshers with a meal free of cumbersome border laws. The Icelandic sampler plate ($10.99) whisks mouths away on a Nordic nibble-fest, as the platter includes an open-faced rullupylsa (seasoned lamb) sandwich, skyr (Icelandic yogurt), brown-sugar-laced ponnukokur (Icelandic crepes), and a slice of multi-layered vinaterta torte filled with prunes and cardamom. Practice lifting pinkie weights during the Fjallkona cream tea for two served after 2:30 p.m. ($16.99), and, for a sugary epilogue, Amma’s dessert menu dazzles sweet teeth with a decadent roster of toothsome treats. Take tea in Amma’s warm and inviting dining room festooned with arts and crafts, or partake in alfresco feeding frenzies in the outside seating area.

With today’s Groupon: for $44, you get a one-hour custom sports massage at Massage Athletica (an $89.25 value, including GST).

Massage Athletica’s certified therapists perform athletics-enhancing and injury-alleviating treatments on clients in a balance-focused therapeutic clinic setting. Patients arrive early for scheduled sessions to complete a survey detailing their treatment needs. After reviewing the form, therapists lead clients to a massage room for one-hour custom muscle-soothing sessions focused on performance enhancement or treatment of existing injuries. Tissue technicians apply modalities such as movement-based Active Release Techniques to address a wide range of soft-tissue concerns. Pre-event massages warm up muscles using fast and short strokes, while post-event massages flush out sports-related body toxins and victory-music residue through slower, longer strokes. Therapists also employ muscle-energy technique to heal strained relationships between opposite joint muscles, or apply gentle, sustained pressure to pained connective tissues in myofascial release. Specialties such as active-release techniques, kinesiotaping, and hydrotherapy may also be used in conjunction with traditional massage.

Prior to their massage sessions, patrons enjoy complimentary beverages and snacks. Patients should arrive for treatment clothed in loose-fitting sports attire, such as shorts or one-size-too-big armour. Massage Athletica’s therapists eschew drapes for their movement-based, active treatments but may cover patients depending on affected areas. Postmassage, therapists help clients extend their session benefits by detailing exercises to perform at home or during weekly vision quests.
